     About Me

Subjects I provide tutoring in

Microeconomics / Macroeconomics

United States Government & Politics

Any Economics or Political Science course

United States  & Global History

As a teacher with over 35 years of experience, I have taught the entire range of Social Science courses.  However, over the past 20 years, my  concentration  and focus has been on Economics and United States Government,  particularly Advanced Placement and College Level.

I was the developer and sole teacher of the Advanced Placement (AP) Macroeconomics / AP Microeconomics and AP United States Government and Politics programs at Midwood Secondary School, having taught it annually since its inception there in 2006.  As of my last active secondary school semester, I was teaching four classes (34 students each) of  AP Government in the fall semester and four classes of AP Macroeconomics in the spring.  Students then took both AP exams in May.   Currently, I teach Micro and Macroeconomics at St. John's University.

I am also an active member of the National Advanced Placement Exam Grading Committee who travels annually (or marks remotely) to a U.S. city for an eight day session to score all of the Government or Economics exams administered in the entire nation. I continually participate in meetings, seminars and marking sessions with the exam's question writers,  other test graders and AP exam instructors.

I am the sole tutor in my business. Unlike other commercial  centers, you will not be assigned a relatively inexperienced, geographically convenient person, to serve your needs. Many other services provide recent graduates who have never taught and have a cursory knowledge of the subject. I have instructed thousands of  students  over decades of learning,  know what other instructors are looking for on their exams and believe in getting to the point of topics and questions.

I tutor a subject which I love, and believe in getting students to share my view.  One needs to focus on what's necessary without drowning learners with extraneous material.  Young adults in today's "smart phone, social media dominated world" must become involved in the material. Economics and politics are fun if presented in the proper way.  Complex terms should be explained in easy to understand language using comparisons that those of a different generation will understand and remember.  Communication, patience, an understanding of the young adult mind and a hint of fun  are essential for effective learning.  With all of the outside stimuli in our society, students  should be able to see for themselves the value, functionality and relevance of these courses.  Having dealt with this age group for over three decades, this has become second nature.

I am Staten Island based but serve the New York / New Jersey area to provide scholarly tutoring in your or my home or another site.  I'm personable, prompt, courteous, accommodating and believe that  a conversation  prior  to  retention is often  necessary to gauge a student's   needs. The fee is $150-$250  per hour, depending upon location.  Discounts can be arranged if tutoring more than one student at a time and the chemistry between the students work.  I can free up my schedule at the last minute if an “emergency” session is required. Please compare my services to other commercial organizations which employ less experienced individuals, charge more and require a minimum amount of hours.
